Don't Be a Flat Squirrel—Make a Decision

Avoid becoming a flat squirrel in the real estate market. Make the decision and know it is right for you.

My wife and I just returned from a vacation to Washington, D.C., and on our way up there she said something that I thought applied well to real estate: “The road is filled with a lot of flat squirrels.”

What does this mean, though? It is all about indecision. Squirrels are not flat because they made it across the road—they run back and forth and are eventually get run over due to indecision.

The No. 1 thing you can do in real estate is be decisive. If you are looking to sell your home, decide that that’s what you are going to do and do whatever it takes to sell it. You are selling it for a reason, so do not be indecisive, because the market is going to pass you by.

I recently showed a house in an upscale neighborhood on the waterfront and the seller was offering a boat to go with the home. The seller had decided they wanted to sell their home and that they were going to do whatever they had to do to vacate it. The very next day, that house was under contract.

If you are looking to sell your home, make the decision to do whatever it takes to sell it in this market, or it will pass you by. Get with your licensed real estate agent and have them help you make the right decision now.

If you are looking to buy a home, know that homes are about lifestyle, not the structure itself. The reality is you are buying a location and what it provides you. Homes can be changed to fit what you want them to be. You have to decide on the lifestyle you want to lead and find the home that fits that lifestyle.

Let your real estate professional find that home that you can change to fit your lifestyle throughout the years that you own the home. Your agent can help you negotiate a great deal and you can be successful.

If you want to have a successful sale, make that decision. If you want to purchase and be successful, make that decision. Do not be the flat squirrel.

If you have any questions or are interested in making the decision to buy or sell, please feel free to reach out to me. I would be happy to help you make your decisions a success.
